A lovely small Christmas project suitable for beginners to mosaic overlay crochet as long as you know crochet basics. There are general instructions for mosaic crochet. However, if you haven't done mosaic crochet before, you will find a number of videos on YouTube to help you.
The pattern contains written instructions and charts, marked with Xs. One chart is the full pattern and there are two halves of the chart which are better for printing and pasting together.
Pattern is in US terminology. I used acrylic yarn however, if you are going to put hot objects on the placemat, cotton yarn would be more suitable. Choose contrasting colours so the pattern stands out. You need at least 2 colours and less than 50g for each colour.
