This field poppy is designed to be as realistic as possible, featuring long stitches replicating the delicate striations of the petals, slightly uneven edges to the petals and the characteristic cross of black in the centre.
● For a poppy approximately 9cm or 3½" across, use DK (light worsted weight, Category 3) yarn and a 3.5mm hook.
● For a larger 14cm or 5½" poppy, useAran weight (worsted weight, Category 4) yarn and a 4.5mm hook.
This pattern is fully illustrated with colour photos, and is available in both UK and US crochet terminology - just choose whichever you prefer to use.
At a number of points in the pattern there are notes on how you can alter and customize the flower to your preferences, so that if you are making a group of them, each poppy will be individual, just like in nature.
