The guage isn’t important. You can use any yarn, just keep all the same weight.
Yardage is a very rough estimate, I used a ball of each colour, but you may have anything from none to 3/4’s left. It all depends on the actual temperatures.
I had to buy an extra ball of vintage peach, the cream uses about 4 balls. (Depending on your tension & yarn weight)
The pattern is mainly for the colour charts, plus the temperature daily charts & checking off sheet. Plus where to find temperatures & historical temperatures.
