This is an easy pattern that gives a little bit of texture basic knit and purl stitches with some slip stitches to give a nice texture to the cowl. It can be made bigger or smaller just by casting on enough stitches for an additional repeat.
Getting an exact gauge isn't really crucial for this project and it can be made in any yarn. If you do not want the main color to show on the first purl row all you have to do is when changing to CC just knit a row first then work one purl row.
