The design incorporates beads or sequins as decorative embellishments throughout the knitted fabric.

Knitting Techniques and Construction

The Hot and Cold Cowl is worked in the round using circular needles, beginning with a cast-on and joining to work continuously. The pattern requires pre-stringing beads or sequins onto the yarn before beginning, using a thin tapestry needle to thread them onto the yarn. This technique allows the beads to be incorporated into the fabric as you knit. The pattern can be followed either from written instructions or from a chart, with chart rows read from right to left.

Materials and Yarn Weight

This pattern is designed for aran-weight yarn. The blue cowl shown in the pattern photographs uses one skein of GGH soft kid mohair for the largest size. The lightweight nature of kid mohair makes it ideal for a winter cowl that provides warmth without excessive bulk. Crafters will also need a thin tapestry needle for pre-stringing beads or sequins, and circular needles appropriate for aran-weight yarn.
