This pattern was inspired by our visit to Mono Lake, California. The lake area is known for its unique limestone formations called tufa. Tufa are towers that rise up out of the lake due to the water chemistry. I used their shape as the inspiration for the cables in this design. This shawlette is worked tip to tip, with front post treble crochet cables worked along the way. The cables will be horizontal when worn. You will increase to the center point, then decrease to the opposite tip. Finally, the ruffled edging is added. A photo tutorial is included.

Yarn: Fingering weight (weight 1). Approximately 425 yards main color, 80 yards contrast color. I used approximately 470 yards (total) of Yarn Matter Extra Pure Sock in various one of a kind colors. Hook: 3.75 mm, or size needed to meet gauge. Finished size: 58” wide, 11” deep, after blocking. Gauge: BEFORE blocking, 21 sts x 11 rows of dc = 4” x 4”. The first 9 rows of the pattern measure approximately 4”x 2” AFTER blocking.
