Crocheted in 100% Dk/light worsted weight cotton - just perfect for a little newborn - and it is gender neutral! So would make a wonderful gift for a newborn! (Of course acrylic yarn may also be used)
The granny square begins with a duck and and becomes a square. The duck is part of the granny square (it is not appliqued on afterwards).
