Mix up the stripes! I often use self striping for vanilla socks, but this time, vanilla socks just didn’t cut it. Add in a challenge to manipulate self striping yarn, and you have Manipulative.

The cuff and toe are worked in the round with the remainder of the sock using short rows to form alternating diamonds. While the individual diamonds are worked flat, the leg and foot are also worked in the round.

Pattern uses the wrap & turn method, but any method of working short rows can be worked. Wraps were worked on the socks shown, but could be left out at the knitter’s discretion.

Pattern is written only. There are no charts.

Supplies: 8 stitch markers plus 1 locking stitch marker

Needles: any configuration that allows small circumference items to be worked on both the right side and the wrong side.

Yarn: Self striping yarn is recommended. Sock size, stripe length, starting point, and gauge variations will impact how the stripes align with the individual diamonds.
