Maui's Fish Hook From Moana

One of my sons is crazy about the movie Moana. His favorite song is “ You are welcome”. Maui is his favorite and of course he wants a Maui hook. I start to search on line to find an exist Maui hook pattern, but I cannot find it anywhere. That was my motivation to design one myself. I tried 3 different versions with different hook sizes. This version is my most satisfied one. During the processing, the most difficult problem I tried to solve that is how to make it stiff. Finally, I found two ways to solve this. First, use very small hook and cotton yarn, like this pattern calls for. That makes the hook pretty stiff but not as solid as a stick. Second, I stuffed in my son’s plastic spoon it works perfectly. Even the neck of the spoon curves just like the hook. You could use anything that could support the neck of the hook and also be safe for your little ones.
