This hat was designed to be an ideal first stranded knitting project. It is meant to cover all of the basic skills that ones needs to do stranded knitting on a small, rewarding project that slowly builds in difficulty. Pattern includes a page of notes for successful stranded knitting.
The Primero Hat never uses more than two colors in the same row and a single color is used for no more than 5 consecutive stitches through most of the color work. A wool or wool blend yarn is recommended for maximum “forgiveness" and memory, especially for a knitter new to stranded knitting.
This pattern requires the knitter to work knit, purl, and decrease stitches in the round for the basic hat shape. Stranded knitting is represented in the color knitting chart. The pattern does not recommend a particular method for knitting in the round.
