he stranded motif on the body of this hat was inspired by a wrought iron grille from the Pavilion of the “Quotidian,” at the Exposition of the Decorative Arts in Paris, in 1925—the exhibition which gave rise to the term “Art Deco.”

In addition to the stranded pattern, this hat has a number of interesting details: a double rolled edge, garter stitch earflaps, and corkscrew tassels (any or all of which may be easily omitted). Quotidiana is worked in the round from the bottom up, with the contrast rolled edge and earflaps added afterward using picked up stitches (no sewing required). Shown in gently contrasting yarn colors, which give the stranded pattern a shadowy effect, this hat would also be striking worked in two strongly contrasting colors.
