At first glance, these socks appear rather simple: top down, plain leg, 'Strong' type heel and rounded toe. However there the simplicity ends because the Wee Duchess has designed a treat for feet: the whole of the heel, sole and toe are worked in lovely squishy partridge stitch. Step by step illustrations show you how to compensate for the tension difference by adding in extra rows so that the sock does not bunch up around the ankle. The designer gives you a tutorial on using a modified 'Japanese' turning method. Why bother? Hand-knitting socks is a labour of love and don't we hate when holes appear, usually at the heel or under the toes?
