Sonetto is Italian for little song or poem. The pattern includes both English and German instructions. The lace pattern is charted only.
The Sonetto Shawl is slightly asymmetrical in shape and design but very simple to knit. It is cast on at one wingtip with a few stitches and then simply knit in widening rows until it is large enough or you run out of yarn, whichever comes first. There are gradual increases along one side, touches of very easy lace and a little soothing stocking stitch. No short rows, no counting but enough happening to keep you interested.
Any fingering weight wool or wool blend will work well for this pattern. Sample shown, blocked: 59" wide by 24" deep, and used 520m. Gauge: 20 sts to 4" over stocking stitch, unblocked.
