As a zoo volunteer I love to knit hats featuring our amazing animals. This adult size pattern includes 2 swan hats, Swimming Swans and Kissing Swans. Swimming Swans features 5 lovely swans swimming in a circular pond. Kissing Swans has 2 lovebirds facing each other at the center front.
I used Red Heart Super Saver® for the samples because of its ready availabilty, huge color seletion and easy care. Any worsted weight yarn can be substituted. You will need one or two background colors, plus smaller amounts of white, black and orange for the swans. The finished circumference is about 20" and fits a woman’s head up to 22" or 23".
IMPORTANT: This pattern requires a knowledge of duplicate stitch to embroider the swans. Duplicate stitch provides a rich depth which I love. (Fair Isle and intarsia will not work because the chart includes half stitches.) The detailed pattern has large and complete swan charts, including paths to follow for the duplicate stitch.
