Unconscious Inference is a part of a theory of visual perception that implies that human vision is incomplete and that details are inferred by the unconscious mind to create a complete picture. Optical illusions are the most obvious instances of unconscious inference. It is possible to create some beautiful geometric optical illusions with knitting (especially the combination of brioche with garter stitch), obtaining a luscious and warm wrap fascinating the eye and the mind. This wrap is worked using a laceweight yarn, that is used plain in the two ends (at the beginning and the end of the piece), giving an airy and translucent appearance to these parts and a more elegant drape to the entire stole. The center part, on the contrary, is worked with yarn held doubled, adding warmth and weight to the piece and making the illusion design more evident.
