Venture outside your comfort zone—the place you have known, the things you have seen, the patterns you have knit, leave it all behind and wander into the unknown, and embrace the uncertainty.
The Kumara, also known as the sweet potato, served as a common food source for the Maori before the arrival of the Europeans. The Maori showed respect to the plant in their textile arts and crafts, through a simple geometric motif pattern resembling the leaves of this potato plant, called “rau kumara”.
This is a simple, uncomplicated hat, knit-bottom up, featuring the rau kumara motif on the body.
This pattern has been tech edited for clarity and corrections.
