ver·di·gris (ˈvərdəˌɡrēs/) noun noun: verdigris - a bright bluish-green encrustation or patina formed on copper or brass by atmospheric oxidation, consisting of basic copper carbonate.

That’s the official definition of verdigris, but to my mind, verdigris could also be defined as “the magical thing that happens when rain water trickles down copper”. Because, it is magical that the reaction between a raindrop and a metal leads to such amazing changes in colour and shade – nature’s art, really.

The Verdigris cowl features a stitch that looks like cable work, but isn’t! Instead, it’s a lace stitch that I’ve adapted by substituting a lifted increase for the yarn over used in the lace pattern. The result is a scroll-like pattern with a natural bias, and a bit of scalloping on both edges.

Yarn Requirements Small: 200-225 yards/183-205 metres of DK weight yarn Medium: 275-300 yards/251-274 metres of DK weight yarn Large: 375-400 yards/343-366 metres of DK weight yarn
