Yet another idea how to use up left-over sock yarn… this time we are creating wee cute little hats for newborns, knitted sideways using short rows.
The hat is started with a provisional cast-on. Then the hat is worked in alternating colors, always using one color at a time, in mindless garter stitch. The crown is shaped using short rows with German Double Stitches. Finally the cast-on is joined with the live stitches in garter kitchener stitch for a seamless finish.
The pattern looks way more complicated than it is to actually work it. If you know the techniques and once you have worked one hat, you surely want to explore all the different color combinations from your left-over bin!
