Written pattern.
The same pattern and needles are used for both Ladies and Child’s versions of the mitten, but the yarn thickness is different, to give the size difference.
Materials required: set of 4 double pointed size 2.5 mm knitting needles, approx 160 yards/150 metres DK/Light worsted yarn (roughly equivalent to a 50 g ball) for ladies mittens or 4-ply/fingering for child’s mittens, stitch holder.
Finished sizes (approximate as these mittens do stretch): Ladies mittens: 7½-inches/19 cm long by 3½-inches/9 cm across palm. Child’s mittens: 6½-inches/16 cm long by 3-inches/7.5 cm across palm.
Gauge: Ladies mittens - 7 sts and 10 rows = 1-inch/2.5 cm over stocking /stockinette stitch. Childs mittens - 8 sts and 11 rows = 1-inch/2.5 cm over stocking/stockinette stitch
