Product Details
Celtic Medallion mittens are traditional colorwork mittens with two color ribbing and a peasant thumb. The motif designs were taken from early Pictish artwork and the Book of Kells. The combination of colors is inspired by an early celtic bowl. The pattern includes charts, photos, and written instructions.
The main spiral pattern is based on enamel medallion designs from Pictish artwork of early medieval Scotland. The triple spiral was a common pattern in early Celtic artwork. The key pattern design on the palm is adapted from the Nigg Stone,an 8th century Pictish cross-slab,located in the parish church in Easter Ross, Scotland. The geometric band is loosely adapted from the book of Kells
Recommended yarns: Jamieson shetland Spindrift, rowan pure wool 4 ply, regia 4 ply or other wool 4 ply fingering weight yarns.
There is a German version of this pattern available.
