During a crescent moon, it is the sun that fills the moon with brilliant light. But, it is the pale light reflected off the Earth that gives the rest of the moon a ghostly glow, called Earthshine. The Earthshine Shawlette explores the themes of reflection and release, as the distinctive elongated caliper cables and columns of dropped stitches are worked. The top portion of the crescent features delicate eyelet lace columns, suggestive of Earth’s faint shine on the moon’s surface.
