Product Details

I was asked to write a pattern for this butterfly (Eochroa Trimenii) I created, even if no classical row by row instructions could be provided because it is crocheted in a kind of freeform. This is mostly a photo-tutorial, perfect for intermediate to experienced crocheters but my technique is beginners friendly and was created for them.

The number of stitches and rows can vary and even the size and the shape of your butterfly can be changed. I call my technique frame-crocheting and it consists in creating a wire frame and crocheting inside it, following its shape, in rows or in rounds.

Materials: I used cotton threads (100gr/400m) of following colors: pink, orange, turquoise, yellow, black, fuchsia (I used thinner threads like DMC Babylo 20 (50gr/366m) to create the body and “draw” the lines on the wings), 0,7-1 mm wire, 1,25 and 2 mm hook, needle, scissors. You can use threads or yarn of your choice. Yarn leftovers are perfect for this project.
