Product Details
Fannette Island in Emerald Bay is the only island in Lake Tahoe. Now permanently closed and a part of Emerald Bay State Park, it once held the private Tea House of Mrs. Lora Josephine Knight. Emerald Bay was formed by glaciers thousands of years ago, but geologists believe there is a rib of very strong granite, and that rib is what formed Fannette Island.
This cowl is elegant and delicate, much like the beautiful tea house which graces the island, but is tough and hard wearing, much like the granite which forms the island. (Interesting note: over the past 100 years, this island has been known as Coquette, Fannette, Baranoff, Dead Man’s, Hermit’s, and Emerald Isle. Fannette is the name that has prevailed.)
This cowl is inspired by and is the little sister of the Crystal Bay shawl. Fanette Island is the only island in Lake Tahoe and rises from Emerald Bay. The island is accessible only by boat, and is now part of a state park. This cowl can be made wider/drapey-er by add
