Product Details
My mother in law is a birder. With a capital B. When she came to visit us for the first time in our new home in Cumbria, UK in the summer of 2011, we were renting a house with a huge kitchen that had windows all along the back wall, providing lovely views of our garden. We ate all our meals there, and while my MIL was visiting, she would eat with her binoculars around her neck, stopping a conversation mid-sentence to snatch them up and catch a glimpse of the wildlife that flew by. I designed these fingerless mitts for her to use (outside of course) on those crisp spring or fall mornings that are full of birdsong and promise of a lovely day.
The design incorporates just a bit of lace at the cuff and vikkel braids for interest, making this a quick, fun project for the advanced beginner/intermediate knitter who is looking to expand on their colourwork skills.
Knit in the round at a gauge of 9 st/inch/2.5cm, you will need approx. 60g of a Main Colour (solid or semi-solid) and 30 g of highly Contrasting Colour (variegated yarns could work as well) in fingering weight yarn.
This patten is for the "Intermediate" knitter as it requires knitting in the round, lace & stranded knitting and a vikkel braid.
