Introducing Hydrotropism!

The perfect shawl for spring and summer, Hydrotropism is knit with a fingering weight yarn on US 5 needles. The resulting fabric makes it a light and airy wrap, but still warm enough to ward off the morning and evening chill. The cable pattern used in this shawl brings to mind the roots of a plant - the way that they start out dense and wrapped around each other, with the strongest roots setting out alone and reaching deeper into the soil in a process called Hydrotropism. The pattern starts out dense and the cables are worked close together, but they become increasingly farther apart as you work towards the center of the piece, and once again closer as you work towards the end of the piece. The cable pattern looks complicated but is easy to memorize once you’ve worked it a few times. Cable pattern is written out row by row, but not charted.
