Product Details
The lavendula mittens were inspired by experimentation with black beans as a natural dye source with Clun Forest fiber (a threatened breed in the US). The dyeing resulted in several shades of bluish-grey and green, which resembled the colors of my lavender plant. The instructions include detailed information and photos on how the fiber in the sample mittens was dyed and spun. This pattern was designed with handspun, hand-dyed yarn in mind, but commercials yarns would also do it justice! The sample shown is size L.
Clun Forest sheep are white with dark brown faces and legs. As reported by the Livestock Conservancy, their wool is medium, with a staple length of 6-10 cm. Fiber diameter ranges between 25-33 microns. The wool is dense, relatively free from kemp and black fibers, and uniform in quality.
