Lately I’m really into “modern Fair Isle.” I love how traditional Fair Isle colorwork looks when knitted at a larger (worsted) gauge. For this vintage-style ski sweater, I really wanted to experiment with using arrow motifs paired with traditional Fair Isle patterns. And who doesn’t love a little child dressed in a vintage ski sweater?
This pullover is worked from the bottom up in the round to the armholes, then the front and back are divided and worked back and forth up to the shoulders, which are shaped with a few short rows, then joined with a three-needle bind-off. There is some colorwork in the back- and-forth sections, but there are several different choices for how much colorwork those sections contain. The sleeves are worked top- down from stitches picked up around the armholes, and are finished with a bit of colorwork to echo the body. A substantial shawl collar finishes the look.
