This is a pattern for a rectangular shawl that’s created using a single cable lace stitch, that makes quite a statement. The shawl itself is knit in a single piece which is 22 inches x 72 inches. There are instructions contained within the pattern for three optional crocheted edgings: (1) One that is simply crocheted (2) one that is crocheted with size #8 Japanese seed beads and (3) one that is crocheted with size #6 Japanese seed beads. All three of the edgings use a single crochet, so that if you’re familiar with that stitch, there are instructions for a bead single crochet (bsc).
Skill Level for Knitted Shawl: Intermediate - Intermediate + (assuming a basic knowledge of cable-lace knitting). Skill Level for Optional Edgings: Beginner + (assuming some working knowledge of crochet)
The stitch is both charted and written out line by line.
Any heavy weight fingering yarn or sport weight yarn will work for this pattern, achieving a gauge of 4.5 sts/inch with size US 7 (4.5mm) needle.
