Product Details
Pteryx is an asymmetric triangle designed to show off a variegated yarn with an engaging combination of garter and stockinette. The name comes from the Archaeopterix, because the stitch pattern resembles the vanes in fossilised feathers.
The body of the shawl is worked sideways, in alternating bands of garter to blend colours, and stockinette with long slipped stitches to highlight variegation and short colour changes. Alternatively, a solid or semisolid yarn will emphasise the texture of the stitch pattern beautifully.
If you’ve had a skein of lovable-but-crazy variegated yarn languishing in your stash for years that you don’t know how to make use of, this may be the pattern for you.
Can be worked entirely from written pattern, or from charts with some notes.
Adaptable to any yardage of fingering to Aran weight by adjusting needle size to suit your preferred gauge.
