Product Details

I knew when I saw the Silvia edging that I had to use it in a shawl. The edging has been adapted from a traditional Estonian lace pattern by Olga Jamovidova and Liina Gavrilo on their excellent blog ‘New lace – old traditions’. I then set out to find another stitch pattern to complement it and found ‘Crashing Waves’ in Debbie Tomkins’ stitch dictionary ‘250 Knitting Stitches’. A couple of small tweaks, the addition of some carefully placed beads, and ‘Silvia by the sea’ was born.

This is a semi-circular shawlette knit from the bottom up in one piece. The shaping is done using short rows in the stocking stitch section and it is finished with an i-cord cast off.

As written, the pattern includes both beads and nupps. You could, of course, omit the beads, or, if you find the nupps a bit too fiddly, replace them with beads.

Both a chart and written instructions are given for this pattern.
