The Ashton Hat is a classic cabled winter hat that is great for people of all ages. It involves two easy cables with a ribbed brim, and is relatively quick to knit up--it can be completed in a day or two.
The pattern is for a one-size-fits-all hat, but instructions are given on how to reduce or increase the size of the hat to whatever you need. The given pattern is about a S/M adult size.
Skill level is advanced beginner. You will need to know how to knit in the round on circular needles, and how to knit and purl. Instructions are given on how to complete the cables, but it may be helpful to be familiar with cabling techniques.
