Product Details

Wheatsheaf is a cowl to match our Wheatsheaf Hat and can be made with either DK or Aran (Worsted) weight yarn.

The cable pattern reminds me of a wheatsheaf, hence the name, but bluesocks thought they looked like X's for kisses. Either way, I love it. It's a quick knit, great way to use up small amounts of yarn and you can make a matching set as a gift.

The cable pattern has both charted and written instructions.

Gauge/Tension for body of cowl in cable pattern - unstretched: 16sts x 32 rows = 3in x 4in/7.5cm x 10cm with 5mm/US8 16sts x 32rows = 3 5/8th in 9.25cm x 4in/7.5cm x 10cm with 5.5mm/US9

A note on needle sizes. I used a 5mm needle for my cowl made with the Rowan Cashsoft DK and it was perfect for me as I like a slimmer fit cowl, it had less depth than the Aran version which fit nicely under my Winter coat. The Aran version used 5.5mm needles and has a slightly deeper brim (for folding over if you wish or to keep your ears warm) and is a looser fit around the neck area.
