The pattern has both written instructions and a chart, but chances are that once you get started, you'll barely need to look at them since it's so easy to follow.
The Winnetka Hat uses approximately 55g, less than 1 skein of yarn. The hat size is easily adjustable -- if you need to make it smaller or larger, just change the cast-on amount by a multiple of 12. The only skills needed for this hat are: knit in the round, knit, purl, slip stitches, and knit 2 stitches together.
