I adapted this from the pattern as the hood came up too large and the sleeves were too long so unpicked them, shortened the sleeves and added a fluffy collar to match the borders. Then made a hat to match, really pleased with the outcome.
Ps Yvonne! I like what you did at the top of the hat too, better than a bobble that's so hard to attach securely. How did you do this please or can you post a close up if you still have it? Thanks!
I love that you altered the pattern. Seems you made for a small baby do you think the hood would fit ok/better for 1-2 or 2-3 ages? I'm assuming that instead of picking up stitches to knit the hood you picked up and worked the neckline instead, that right? I love this pattern and thought I'd make for my three little granddaughters but want to get it right!
Hi Valerie,
I made the hood exactly as it said but I felt it was way too big, I was making the smallest size and it almost fitted my head! No idea if the bigger sizes would be better but maybe knit the hood to the smaller size instructions. I picked up stitches along the neck edges of the two fronts and also knitted across the stitches on the holder at the back and worked ten rows in the fluffy wool, making an extra button hole as well. The hat is one I've made several times, it's a free pattern, I'll try and find the link for you, it's very easy to make.
@Yvonne C: thanks Yvonne I just loved the pattern and was a bit disappointed when I read your post. I will be making 1-2 and 2-3 but will bear in mind what you say about a smaller hood or may just make the hat. Be great if you've the pattern and can send to me. 😊 I've three little grand daughters aged from 11 months to 2 so thought I'd knit one for them all!
