This was a stash buster project. This is the second time I've used this pattern. I love the offset design. The first time I made it, I must have been tired and couldn't manage the cable. Success this time. This little cardigan and hat used up only $5 worth of yarn in my stash and then I went off to the craft store and spent $4.50 on buttons. The yarn is great for babies - soft, machine washable and inexpensive, superwash wool/acrylic blend. The yarn is slippery and so were the nickel-plated needles that I was using, so I found it necessary to use needles 2 sizes smaller than called for in the pattern. The pattern for the hat is one that I also found on this site (Baby Helmet with matching bootees), but I modified it a lot to match the sweater. By the way, the baby helmet is from OGE designs, and if you knit for babies, you will want to check out all of her patterns - they are lovely.
