Inspired to knit a pair of socks in Pheasant after seeing the ones Vix made. Love these colours. Pheasant socks to compliment my husbands Mallard ones, planning on doing the Owl for my next project. (Don't think I will be satisfied until I have tried them all) Used a different paintbox pattern this time (free patttern), very similar to the essential pattern, only slight variation in the toe shaping so thought would give this a try. Don't think there is really much difference in the finished sock. Yet to see whether there is any difference in wearing. Having made socks in both the WYS and the Paintbox yarn's, both wash and wear well. Find that the WYS has a slightly softer feel.

    Nadeln

    • Double Point 2.25mm (US 1) 15cm
    • Double Point 2.25mm (US 1) 10cm
Andere : Not sure if the the correct needle size is stated in the pattern, 2.75mm is quoted I think maybe this should be 2.25mm. Used bamboo needled for majority of socks, and short, strong 10 cm metal needles for cast on and first few rows.

Your socks are fantastic Jean,I have been looking at your pictures the colours are lovely and they fit perfectly. I have never worn handmade socks only shop brought. Your dog is gorgeous he looks like a border collie, so when does he get a pair.😊

Thank you Michelle, 😊 it’s actually a very simple pattern, but seems to work well. Thank you, yes a border collie Major, afraid I haven't been able to persuade him to wear socks yet. If I could he would definitely be modelling a couple of pairs 😊

Yes Vix, Socks comfy, warm and cosy. Think there will be many pairs of Christmas socks opened this year. Do you by any chance have a pair planned for yourself. 😊

@Jean F: Funnily enough no, I never make anything for me. I am sure everyone wishes I did as I give them hats, cowls, scarves and now socks!

@Vix: It’s definitely time you had your own pair, if only to give them a test drive. But yes it’s good to make for others. 🤞My friends like all their Christmas Socks.

@Jean F: Tempted again by wool in the sale, have ordered some to make a jumper for my husband, it has been some time since I knitted him a large garment. But after much searching think I have found a pattern I am happy with 😊

@Jean F: The old chap has too many hats, cardigans and jumpers made by moi! I do find large garments a bit of a bore unless they are patterned. Oh I made him a DK waistcoat but took 2 years as didn't
like knitting it when I finally finished it was too small 🙄 What yarn did you get?

@Vix: The Willow and Lark Ramble (was half price very reasonable). I made my self the blue jumper in this yarn few months ago. Its a comfortable wool to wear, light yet stretchy and cosey. Been my go to dog walker jumper.

Worry I will get bored after being spoilt with all the socks. The pattern is in a rib and incorporates two colours. So hopefullly will be enough to keep me interested.

@Vix: Yes I’m planning to do the socks in owl at the same time. The jumper could be a slow process !
Planning as surprise until I see how it turns out. 😊
