Materials required: One pair UK size 14/2.00 mm/US size 00 knitting needles, 1 x 20g ball of No 20 crochet cotton (1-ply cotton may be substituted for No 20 crochet cotton to give a thinner and more open lace), optional - 20 cm/8-inch (approx) square of contrast coloured cotton backing material to cover bedding under bedspread, this helps to show off the lace.

Approximate finished sizes: Valance – base 15 cm/6-inch x 11.25 cm/4½-inch, frill depth 2.5 cm/1-inch (Note: this is designed to fit UNDER the mattress of the bed) Bedcover – 18.75 cm/7½-inches wide by 17.5 cm/7-inches (18.75 cm/7½-inches if footer panel is added) long
