Cable Slouchy Tam Hat

Yes, this hat really is crocheted! The cable is made using a technique which I introduced in my book, Alaskan Hats Using Slip Stitch, published by Leisure Arts in 2019.

This pattern is the result of my quest to find a better way to crochet cables. I’ve always loved how knitted cables look but have been disappointed in how they look when they’ve been crocheted, so over the years I’ve been obsessed with trying different things in an attempt to improve how they are made. It was during this quest that I started to realize how versatile the lowly slip stitch can be. The 6 different basic slip stitches can be arranged in endless combinations, and it was while experimenting with these combinations that magic started to happen! Beautiful designs, stretchy stitches, luxurious fabrics that had amazing drape, and smooth cables started to appear! The quest was over, and I had fallen in love with slip stitching cables!!!!
