Calineczka

Calineczka is a Polish name for Thumbellina but the word ‘Calineczka’ in Polish is based on ‘cal’ which means an ‘inch’.

Level - you must be familiar with lace knitting, the shawl is not very difficult to knit but there are rows which are not intuitive and may cause problems to less experienced knitters. You need to know the following: RT, LT, k2tog, ssk, yo, WS alternates knit and purl sts (included both in the charts and in written instructions)

Sizing is adaptable, you choose how big the shawl is going to be by adding more repeats of the body section.

Yarn - lace to fingering should look best on the shawl. Consequently, needles should be adapted to the yarn used and the degree of lacy effect that you desire to achieve.

Pictured shawl was knitted with Lenka (100% linen, 50g = 300m/328yards) on US 4 – 3.5mm needles. I used up 60g = 360m/394yards to obtain shawl that measures approx. 14 x 60” / 36 x 125cm blocked.
