Dash is a timeless classic, and can be a croppedsweater or a full length cardigan. This works on boys or girls. Dash is knit top down, with a 2 button closer, but can easily be made with buttons down the front. You have 2 sleeve options and 2 body lengths options.
The samples were knit in Lorna's Laces Shepherd Worsted and Rowan Softknit Cotton. A substitute yarn is shown below. The quantities given are for the full length, long sleeve version. The cropped, short sleeve version will require 1 ball less.
