Quick DK/8ply projects are satisfying to make and convenient for gifts too - but what about your collection of lovely 4ply fingering-weight skeins? If you’re like me, you have bought many gorgeous single skeins over time without having a plan in mind for them - but you can’t bear to part with them - at least not without knitting them first!

Designed as a 4ply yarn stash-buster this cowl will use one 100g 4ply skein (approx 440yd) plus about 20g of contrasting 4ply leftover / mini skein. But if you’re expecting to settle in for a long knit, don’t get too comfortable; because this one will be finished before you know it!

The double stranded basket weave base gives way to a light mesh layer that frames the face. Knit the mesh in a colourful, contrasting, or varigated yarn to draw interest.

You will need 4mm needles on 60cm cable. A finer gauge circular needle (for example 2mm) will be helpful if you have it for picking up stitches ready for the second stage.
