The inspiration for the I’LL BE THERE FOR YOU shawl was the theme song from the hit TV show, Friends. It is a very simple, versatile, deep triangular garter stitch shawl with long, thinner, wings. Worked from the top down, completely in garter stitch, it is very beginner friendly.
Any weight yarn may be used with the appropriate sized needles, but keep in mind that any changes will affect the yardage needed.
Needles: US10/6mm Chiaogoo fixed circular needles on a 47” cord (a tight fit toward the end)
Yarn: approximately 134 g/4.73 oz out of 150g/ 5. 3 oz (approx. 530 yds) of Lion Brand Mandala DK.
For pictured shawl (DK)
24" spine depth
64" from bottom point to tip of one wing (along outside)
39" center top to one wingtip (along inside)
Gauge: 9 rows and 4 stitches per inch
For a sock weight version (as per tester):
US 5 needles
light fingering—444.5 yards—96 grams
Spine depth 18” wingspan 56”
gauge was 21sts x 48 rows to 4
Gauge is not critical for this shawl.
