According to one Russian legend, there were two lovers, Ivan and Maria, struck by the lightening in the forest. They loved each other so much that gods decided to turn them into a beautiful flower with yellow petals and purple leaves. This flower, which grows everywhere in the forests of European part of Russia, now carries their names.
Another legend tells the story of incest, though. There were two lovers, Ivan and Maria; they loved each other very much, but they didn't know they were also a brother and sister. And when they found out, they decided they won't be able to live without each other, and asked gods to turn them into a flower...
