Margaret Dashwood's Shawlette

We don’t learn much about Margaret Dashwood in Jane Austen’s novel Sense & Sensibility. Poor Margaret spends much of her time in the shadow of her older sisters, Elinor & Marianne. We do know, however, that she shares the same sense and romantic nature with her dear mother and her older sister Marianne…with a dash of the common sense shown by Elinor.

The Dashwoods’ new home and the turn of events leaving Margaret at home by the seashore wishing for adventure are the inspiration for Margaret Dashwood’s Shawlette.

The shawl has a large area of Stockinette Stitch, making it a good project for folks just learning how to do lace stitches. In fact, I plan to give this to a young friend of mine with some nice yarn as her Christmas present...along with a gift certificate for lace lessons with me. :)

This is a pretty quick knit, makes for a very nice sized wrap (long enough to wrap around the neck to keep cozy, but not bulky).
