Mixology

The “Mixology” shawl is a bit of magic. Like the alchemy of mixing drinks, foods, weaving etc. into an entirely new entity, so is knitting this shawl. You simply pick five colors that you like. Do not overthink it! You won’t be entirely sure what the new fabric will look like (see the hot pink and blue in the top photo? The purple between them is a mixture of the two - definitely not planned but what a showstopper!)

The surprise is part of the magic. Speckles, variegated, tonals and solids all mix wonderfully in this pattern, and the order isn’t really that important since the colors will all be combined with each other during the knitting of this shawl. If the colors are similar, it’s also fine: when you mix them with the half linen (woven) stitch, they become new colors and are not as predictable as you might think.
