The word "cloche" is French for bell. Popular during the flapper era, a cloche hat (or simply “cloche”) is a snug fitting bell shaped hat, with or without a brim. This pattern features six sizes from “Newborn” to “Women XL”, ideal for a Mom ’n Me matching duo.
Each size cloche has three lace pattern repeats. All sizes have individual written instructions and a complete chart of one lace repeat for that size. Lace knitting requires yarnover increases and a variety of familiar decreases. If you’re comfortable with lace knitting or ready for a new challenge, this pattern should be an easy one to follow.
The sample hats are knit in Red Heart Supersaver yarn with a 17 stitch = 4"/10cm gauge. Any similar worsted weight yarn will also work. One 7 oz. skein of Supersaver will make at least three hats for mom and the young girls in a family.
This makes an ideal gift for a baby shower or birthday party. Gift tags to print are also included in the pattern.
