Moonstruck

I met Diana in Rome, walking somehow soundlessly on cobblestones, wearing raw white silk and holding a bundle that looked like moonlight rolled into itself.

As she spun she shook out the bundle at her side and, in one motion, draped it across her shoulders and across her chest. The rectangle of fabric seemed to phosphoresce, lit as it was by three colors stairstepped diagonally across its width, and another bordering those, letting the garment blend gracefully into night. And she smiled right at me, and turned again, and continued with her night walk.

She never told me her name—never spoke at all—but I knew it as a person knows anything true.

Revisiting the rectangular stole - a bit shorter than All the Shades of Truth but easily modified to be a different length. The middle is worked first using intarsia and then the two borders are knit on in the round.

Estimated yardage requirements: 

• Color 1 (cobalt blue in sample) - 275 yards 
• Color 2 (light grey in sample) - 420 yards (includes thin inner border) 
• Color 3 (darker grey in sample) - 275 yards 
• Color 4 (dark blue in sample) - 420 yards (outer border only)
