Nurmes

Nurmes is a warm stretchy hat that alternates 1 x 1 ribbing with some kind of a cable that is created by crossing over two or three stitches. The crossovers may need some practice before they are mastered but once it’s done, knitting becomes relaxing and intuitive.

The hat was created after I discovered that the alpaca yarn I’ve got does not look any good in regular knitting, no matter how much I tried, the stitches still looked totally uneven. The solution turned out to be twisted knit stitches all over right side, not only did they eliminate the problem but also created a very interesting texture.

Level: intermediate, the hat is knit in the round and the crossovers require some practice in more complicated stitches.

Yarn suggested: DK that meets the gauge, 50 – 80g. My hat is done in Garnstudio Drops Puna (100% alpaca, 50g = 120 yards / 110m), I did size L and used up a skein and a half.
