This luxurious shawl was originally designed for the 2019 Blooming Lovely Club with an original lace pattern created by Susan, inspired by the Victorian craze for ferns, known as Pteridomania. The sample shawl was knitted in Lomaria, a blend of alpaca, silk and cashmere, creating a fabric that drapes beautifully and is super-soft against the skin whilst still keeping you warm.
The shawl begins with the central panel, featuring the unique fern-inspired lace motif. The pattern is knitted flat. The panel starts with the Channel island cast-on to mimic the spores found on ferns. The side panels are picked up along the side edges of the centre piece, beginning with a section of Bird's Eye Lace and followed by a simple lace pattern suggesting leaves, and then a simple traditional shaped edging is worked to complete the shawl.
Optional instructions are included to dip-dye the shawl as the sample was.
Both written and charted instructions are included in the pattern for each of the lace sections.
