The design of these mitts takes advantage of the nature of cables. The thumb opening is an open diamond between 2 cable crossings. The cable crossings are opposite for each mitt just like your hands are mirror images of each other. Turning the mitts inside out shows off an entirely different cable pattern. (See pics)
